This past Saturday, July 25, Julie and I had the opportunity to join the Alumni Association in their annual, day-long retreat right here on the GW campus. The retreat gave us some great insight into the many things the Alumni Association is doing for the past, present and future GW student , and we were proud to represent the student perspective to a group of Alumni Association board members who graduated anywhere from months ago to decades ago. In addition to the Alumni board members, this retreat gave us an opportunity to meet with members of the , who we have found to be very receptive to the student opinion, and passionate about improving student life on a day to day basis.

In our small group during the retreat, we discussed many of the same issues members of the Student Association wrestle with everyday: what is the best way to outreach to the GW community? How can we use alumni as better resources for students? How do we quantify and improve that “school spirit” element that so many students feel can be improved upon?

There are a number of great resources the Alumni Association already offers the GW community-at-large, such as the “How do I become a…” speaker series, Alumni Dinners, and the Career Advisor Network. What else would you like to see the Alumni Association offer?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, GW!

Meeting with Kelly Leon in the morning to discuss the comission. Did your organization receive funding from the SRI last year? If so please email me at Julie@gwstudentassociation.com with your experience! Then I headed over to the Advisory Committee to hear what’s in the works for next year. They had really interesting survey responses to share which will help drive service at GW in the next few years. I then had a chance to practice my speech for CI in Lisner Auditorium. I ended the day with another meeting to work on the . It was a really busy day!

Hello Freshmen!

Let us be the first to welcome to you to GW! As you embark through CI and get ready to move in come September, please remember that we are here to facilitate anything that you need help with. Whether it’s a question about how to start an organization or a question about the best cupcake shop in DC, we are your one stop shop for answers. We are also looking forward to recruiting people to get involved, and there are a number of ways to do so in both the Senate and the Executive Branch. We will be accepting applications for Freshman Senators and we will also need a strong team of people to assist our vice presidents in the executive. Feel free to contact either one of us with any questions or stop by our table on day 3 of CI at the Student Org Fair. We look forward to meeting you soon! Enjoy CI and have an amazing summer!

All the best,

Julie and Jason
