This is a reminder that the Flag Your Problem event is being held in Kogan Plaza, from 12 – 2pm today, October 22nd. Come out to meet your Student Association leaders and tell them your thoughts about GW. Below is a description of the event.
The GW Student Association would like to announce our new “Flag Your Problem” event series. The first event will be held this Thursday (October 22nd) in Kogan Plaza, from 12-2pm. These events will serve as a way for the student body to communicate directly with the SA, and inform us about your most pressing problems. We’ll be talking to students and visually demonstrating their problems by writing them on flags and hanging them in Kogan Plaza. This will make the SA more responsive to student needs, and highlight problems that are not being addressed with the amount of emphasis they deserve.
Please come out and tell us about what’s going on in your life right now.

This past Saturday, July 25, Julie and I had the opportunity to join the Alumni Association in their annual, day-long retreat right here on the GW campus. The retreat gave us some great insight into the many things the Alumni Association is doing for the past, present and future GW student community, and we were proud to represent the student perspective to a group of Alumni Association board members who graduated anywhere from months ago to decades ago. In addition to the Alumni board members, this retreat gave us an opportunity to meet with members of the Board of Trustees, who we have found to be very receptive to the student opinion, and passionate about improving student life on a day to day basis.
In our small group meetings during the retreat, we discussed many of the same issues members of the Student Association wrestle with everyday: what is the best way to outreach to the GW community? How can we use alumni as better resources for students? How do we quantify and improve that “school spirit” element that so many students feel can be improved upon?
There are a number of great resources the Alumni Association already offers the GW community-at-large, such as the “How do I become a…” speaker series, Alumni Dinners, and the Career Advisor Network. What else would you like to see the Alumni Association offer?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, GW!

After extensive student input, the GW Student Association launched a revamped web presence. This resources network, consisting of GWStudentAssociation.com, gwsafunds.com, and ourgwsa.com, is designed to not only inform students about what our student government is working on, but also provide access to the vast array of services that our student government provides. Most importantly, it offers students an avenue of communication to their elected leaders so that the conversation is not simply one way.
GWStudentAssociation.com, the primary site, is dedicated to the formal workings of the organization – meetings, agendas, minutes, and contact information. Newly launched gwsafunds.com serves to introduce an additional level of transparency to the funding process by not only providing student organization leaders with resources necessary to navigate the often times cumbersome financial process, but also ensuring that every student has the ability to track, analyze, and evaluate our collective student fund to ensure that it is being best utilized. Also launching is ourgwsa.com, centered around the personal side of student government on campus, our one stop for all the resources that the Student Association and its leaders have to offer.
But this is our website! We’d love to hear thoughts and feedback – let us know what you think by emailing web@gwstudentassociation.com or by tweeting us @ourgwsa.
Want to get involved? Think you can help to make it better? Throughout the year we’ll be looking for assistance keeping the website up to date. No special skills are required, just an eagerness to learn! Email web@gwstudentassociation.com if you’re interested.

Every fall, the Senate invites first year students (graduate and undergraduate) to apply for Non-Voting First-Year Senate Seats. Students selected for these seats have the same rights and privileges as other senators (except a vote) and have the opportunity to join one of the four Senate Committees (Rules, Finance, Academic Affairs, or Student Life). Additionally, every first- year graduate senator is automatically a member of the Graduate Affairs Committee. This is a great opportunity to get involved and have your voice heard!
Questions regarding these positions can be directed to Jamie.Baker@gwstudentassociation.com and the application is available below:

Went to the student organization fair this morning and then spent the afternoon preparing to speak to the Parents Advisory Council tomorrow. There is a lot of great interest in getting involved in the SA! Didn’t have a chance to stop by? Check out “Get Involved” to receive more information.
